A Unique Collection of Resources You’ll Need to Become an Athletic Trainer
If you’re interested in strength and conditioning, physical therapy, and sports, then a career as an athletic trainer may be an option for you.
As a trainer, your actions and plans can be life-changing for athletes that have had an injury, and you offer a behind-the-scenes contribution to the success of the team you are supporting.
Some of your job duties may include:
- Various administrative tasks
- Providing first aid and emergency care when needed
- Develop and process rehabilitation programs
- Create a plan and implement procedures to prevent injuries
- Work with licensed physicians and healthcare providers
- Consult with physicians regularly
- Have meetings with the athletic director to deal with budgets, policy implementation
- More in the resources to follow
If you’re dealing with a team, your schedule will vary because you’ll be traveling with the team, and during the season, you may work long hours and could be away from your family for long periods. That’s something you’ll want to keep in mind if you’re considering this career.
It may be rewarding to help athletes reach their dream and keep them fit and active during their careers, but at the same time, it may be devastating to see an athlete injured to the extent that their career comes to an end.
Another point to consider is you want to make sure you make the right career choice — you don’t want to spend a lot of time, money, and effort to get into a career that you thought was right for you but turned out to be something you’re not passionate about.
When you’re passionate about a career, it’s easier to succeed as well as enjoy your work. Keep in mind approximately one-third of your life is working, so instead of choosing a career that you don’t like, make it your mission to get into a line of work you’re passionate about — something you would do for free if all your financial obligations were already taken care of.
