A Collection of Pages About Becoming A Brand Strategist
Most people believe that brand strategists are born. But if you have a flair for marketing and have good analytical skills, you are well on your way to being a good brand strategist.
You don’t need to have any specific qualifications before becoming a brand strategist. You can have educational qualifications in various fields like psychology, economics, and designs. Although there is a catch, most clients would prefer picking a brand strategist who has a bachelor’s degree in marketing. So, it advisable you get one, but not a must.
To be a brand strategist, you need to be able to think strategically, and the other skills can be learned, but not in any academic program.
Being a good brand strategist emerges from gaining industry experience. Now, it’s most likely you would begin from the bottom as a coordinator when you start marketing so that you can learn the basics. Here you would learn how the managers approach marketing functions.
One prominent characteristic that is a must is your communication skills. You should have strong written and verbal communication skills, you also need to gain copywriting skills, copywriting is one important key to gain leads and making sales.
One important aspect to consider when looking at a new career is that if you want to enjoy your life, you need to be in a line of work you are passionate about. If you consider 1/3 of your life is at work, why would you get into a career that is something you are not passionate about? If you have the choice, wouldn’t you love to work in a field your passionate about?
Another important part about your career choice is to get as much information and experience you can before you commit the time and effort it takes to get into a career. To accomplish this you need to do as much research as you can about the field.
Here’s another step I suggest, see if you can shadow someone or interview a few people that are already in the field. That way you can ask questions and get a sense of what the job is about before you invest the time and effort for this career. You could also do volunteer work for a short period of time, or even part-time to gain some added exposure. This is what I refer to as the, Try before You Buy” approach to choosing a career.
