A Collection of Articles About Becoming An HR Coordinator
If you have an interest in coaching employees, employee administration, recruiting, and teamwork, then being an HR Coordinator may be the right career path for you.
HR Coordinators, in most cases, must have at least a bachelor’s degree in human resources or related fields. You would need to have experience in administrative support for at least 2 years. This would help boost your credibility and place you above others. It is not a deal-breaker if you aren’t licensed but it gives you an edge over your competitors, making it beneficial to you. Certification can be achieved from numerous associations such as The HR Certificate Institute, WorldatWork, and many others.
You would be in charge of hiring as well as the day-to-day needs of the employees, and the company. You will be helping job seekers and employers connect. Your job duties may include recruiting, arranging interviews, and conducting job orientation sessions.
In addition, you may be required to train employees and manage their benefits, work with management-level employees in performing administrative tasks, and other HR functions.
In most cases, you’ll start as an HR specialist, and with time, gather enough experience and then work your way up to the top of becoming an HR Coordinator. You must have strong knowledge in human resources, employment laws, and benefit plans.
You need to have strong organizational and decision-making skills. Your computer skills should be up to date, have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work independently.
With any career, you’re considering, it’s always beneficial to you if you can get an “inside look” into the career. It would be a huge waste of time and money investing in a career only to find in a few months after starting that this career isn’t what you expected and you find yourself in the wrong line of work.
The best way to get an inside view is to meet with a few people that are already working in the HR field, and pick their brain to get answers for any questions you have about the job.
In my opinion, if you can, find someone to shadow for a couple of weeks to get a taste of what the job is about and gain some hands-on experience is the best route to take if this option is available. If not, you can try to get an interview with someone which is the next best thing to shadowing. Either way, make sure you are prepared with the questions you have before meeting with anyone.
The resources in this post will get you started on determining if this is the right career choice for you. The post is divided into sections to keep it organized. Have a look to see what we have in store for you.
