Public speaking is one of the most feared tasks for many people. It’s totally understandable for me because I’m a shy person and in my position, there are times I need to give a presentation or conduct a class.
Who knew, me a shy person who has a fear of public speaking can conduct meetings, give presentations, and teach a class.
I don’t have a problem anymore, what changed?
Here’s my experience, I started with a few people, three or four, and moved my way up to 30 people.
Do I still get nervous with that amount of people? Sure I do, but my secret is, knowing the material well. When I know the material, I set my focus on it, and that’s what builds my confidence. If I wasn’t familiar with the material, then I’m sure I’d stumble.
Another benefit to improving your public speaking skills is, once you become skilled in public speaking you automatically improve your self-confidence and self-esteem, which will improve other areas of your life!
